To explain why the Dynapack units are so exceptional, we must first explain what a dyno actually is. The word Dyno is short for Dynamometer. A Dynamometer is used to measure force applied in terms of torque (ability to perform work) at a rotational speed. There are some internal calculations applied to the torque figures achieved relevant to the speed and power can then also reported. To retrieve this data a car is loaded onto the dyno and driven under acceleration. The dyno unit by design effectively provides a form of resistance and the car’s ability to overcome this resistance is measured and fed directly into the calculations above.




The main feature of the Dynapack dyno is the way in which it connects to the vehicle. Unlike conventional rolling road dynos where the car’s tyres physically spin a large roller (meaning the interface between the car and dyno is the tyres in contact with the rollers), the Dynapack dyno requires removal of the wheels and the bolting on of adapters direct to the axle of the vehicle meaning the connection between car and testing equipment is a mechanical one.



The reason this is important are varied:

No Slip – A mechanical connection between the car and the dyno means there is no room for slippage of any kind unlike a conventional roller dyno system that relies on the tyre on a roller where slip under acceleration or, more specifically loss of traction against the load of the dyno is an issue that corrupts the data.

No Noise – By comparison a Dynapack dyno is almost silent. Using a rolling road dyno means attempting to ignore the massive noises the rollers make when spinning up to speed. This noise which can be almost unbearable for people around the car has a huge impact on the actual engines noises the tuner can actually hear. Listening for certain noises is critical when tuning and a with a Dynapack dyno having almost none this allows the tuner to concentrate on your engine without having to filter out the massive background noise of rollers

No Change in Diameter – As the size of the wheels and tyres are of no importance to a Dynapack dyno (due to the way the vehicle is mounted to it) there is no need ti guesstimate or input any kind of info for tyre and wheel sizes which changes for every car. On a Rolling Road Dyno however these are of massive concern and a change in wheels and tyre size has  substantial impact on readings and the resulting data. On the Dynapack dyno the connection is made at the axle and the revolution speed is constant for all vehicle’s tested – Completely regardless of your wheel or tyre size.

No Change in Tyre Temp – As the temperature and pressures in a tyre increases with use, the diameter changes slightly impacting data integrity as well as how sticky the surface is also impacting the data. With a Dynapack dyno the tyres are stacked neatly aside and there are no variables and the comparison is always fair and accurate. Also just as importantly is there is zero tyre wear from a session on a Dynapack dyno for this same reason too!

No Safety Concerns – As there are no wheels turning and the car is held completely suspended from the ground there is no risk of the car coming off the dyno no matter how powerful it is. The car is not at all in contact with the ground and there is no force, momentum or inertia acting on it – there is no-where to go. Conventional Rolling Road Dyno’s require numerous straps and anchoring equipment that a car on a Dynapack Dyno simply doesn’t need. These big straps can also exaggerate some of the issues we’ve mentioned above with tyre temperatures too – all of which a Dynapack Dyno Tune is completely free of.

Absolute Data Consistency and Sensitivity with Dynapack – Because Dynapack Dyno’s are not subjected to the variable conditions of tyre size, tyre compound and pressures, rolling diameter, weight and size of the rim as well as the issues with slip, you can be assured that the results are consistent, repeatable and above all, accurate test after test.

Genuine Load Based Testing – Due the way the ‘work’ being performed is measured as opposed to estimated like many other dyno designed, you can also perform much more advanced testing on a Dynapack dyno. A Dynapack dyno has unprecedented control over the vehicle and can perform tests that inertia based dyno’s (Rolling Road) are simply not capable of.
