I too initially found it hard to decide where to take my car. I’m a big believer in credit where credit is due so I wanted to share my experience with Tunehouse here in Sydney. First of all I’m in no way affiliated with Tunehouse, I don’t get any discounts and when Jim was booked out on the dyno i waited my turn like everyone else. My car had a turbo rebuild, clutch rebuild and half a dozen or so other bolt on parts fitted recently and I had all the work done at Tunehouse after hearing good things from a friend of mine with a similar car. My first impression was a ridiculously clean workshop (who paints a workshop floor almost white?) with blokes that always say hi and are happy to just have a chat.
For every part I wanted the intended power level and use of the car was taken into account and Tony was happy to explain things to me that I probably should have already known!! I was given 2 or 3 options at differing price levels for each part and Jim, the owner and tuner, recommended the cheaper option to me for a couple of parts as they were more appropriate for my goals; which I really think shows how genuine this guy is.
The tune is beautiful. The car makes the power I wanted with a good strong curve, starts cold every time, idles flat and partial throttle and Sydney traffic driving is all dealt with without a fuss. Me having my car back just how I wanted it makes me so happy and I just wanted to share that with you all.
When you see this workshop and see how these guys look after their own cars, you’ll know why I felt happy to leave my pride and joy in their hands. A massive thankyou to Jim, Tony, Tim and the boys at Tunehouse!”
After a series of disasters with various tuning shops around Sydney I finally have a result with my R34 GTR. I achieved a result of 390kw, which is nice. But the big difference vs before.
1. It accumulates revs like a motorbike,
2. It boosts in all the gears, even 1st which makes legal street driving fun if you want it to be,
3. It feels very eager below 3000.
At 4000 rpm, it is doing 175kw, and is nearly @ 1 bar, At 5000 rpm, it is doing 330kw and has topped out at 24psi. From 5000 to 8000 it is ridiculous. Below 4000 rpm, the car feels much stronger than it did with the N1s @ 270kw (it should feel more laggy).
Tunehouse charged quite reasonably for the tune, they had to obtain Japanese software from a visiting HKS dignitary in order to fully program the v-cam map as the controller alone only allows a low-res map. I think it was the first v-cam they had seen. Considering the mess the tune was in, uncertain state of the mods, etc, Jim didn’t take advantage of the situation. His shop at Marrickville is like a forensic lab!”
For some time now I’ve been putting up with the ROCK HARD drift-spec Tein HRs in my car. The car handled nice and flat and was very responsive to steering inputs but was horribly crashy with some steering rack rattle on uneven bitumen and completely ruined the driving experience apart from when driving on track or on ultra smooth roads. After getting in touch with TEIN in Japan, who put me onto Fulcrum Suspension (TEIN distributor in Australia), Fulcrum then recommended Tunehouse in south Sydney.
I booked the car in to have some TEIN Super Streets fitted. I dropped the car off Saturday before last, planning to pick up the car last Saturday (5/9). Anyways havoc struck when upon fitting the shock to the front right, the bolt attached to the upper suspension arm sheared off completely.
Apparently this is a common problem as the bolts age and become brittle when disassembled. This would be fine except that the car would have to be used for a wedding on Wednesday (yesterday). With sourcing of a new suspension arm from Nissan before Wednesday impossible, some ringing around was done and Mark at Hills Motorsport was able to source the correct part from his warehouse at 10.00pm the night before the wedding. Tunehouse then worked till the early hours that night to have the part fitted so it would be ready for Wednesday.
Well the new suspension is fantastic; the EDFC is a very handy thing to have, especially combined with the Australian valving that has been done to the shocks. Tony also had the attention to detail to mount the unit in the centre console with all wiring tucked away neatly. The SS on 0,0 setting (hardest front & rear) is still a little softer than the old HRs (mainly due to spring rate I think; the coils on the HRs were much more spaced out), but on 16,16 they are bliss on Parramatta road / Victoria rd / Richmond rd.
Jim Ghelis manages all the boys at Tunehouse, and is a bloke who actually seems genuinely concerned about making a customer happy. Tony is in charge of all the TEIN stuff. They are based in Marrickville in Sydney’s inner south-west. If you are thinking about aftermarket suspension they are definitely worth a look and I recommend them.
I don’t want this to seem like an ‘ad’, but instead it’s just an expression of gratitude and appreciation for the good service provided and also their willingness to work until so late at night to get the job done before the big day – something that seems rare these days especially reading some of the posts on here. Huge thanks also go to Mark and the boys at Hills for their help.
Good morning Jim and Tony
I had my 1994 white R32 GTR serviced by Tunehouse a few weeks ago before taking it for its first track day at Wakefield Park on 28 May 2011. Even with those super cheap street tyres, I managed a 1:14.03, never revving past 6500 rpm. I encountered only two issues really by the time I returned to Sydney – poor brakes and a faulty fuel gauge!
Anyway I wanted to reiterate my comments that I was very impressed with your work, which I have also mentioned on the Skylines Australia forum (bottom of page 1): http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/365881-wakefield-wrap-up-thread/
On Saturday evening just passed I was at a 40th birthday party where I again had an opportunity to sing the praises of Tunehouse to a fellow who also has an R32 GTR. His name is John Papoutsis, and I understand he has known you Jim for some years now and that you used to service his silver Aussie delivered R32 GTR. Small world!
I would be happy to say more in detail on the Skylines Australia forums or anywhere else for that matter about Tunehouse and your service – just let me know where you would like me to make comment.
I am hoping for some advice from you both as to how I can best spend my money to improve my car. I definitely can’t afford to throw a huge sum at the car in one hit, so if you can guide me around doing things bit by bit, I will be much obliged.
Thanks again
Scott
Dear Jim and Team Tunehouse,
Please allow me to take this opportunity to express my gratitude on your hardwork and expertise for my 370z recently!
Ever since I had my Akrapovic exhaust installed a while ago by you I knew I had chosen the best team in Sydney.
Not just one person but the entire team and place ooze meticulousness and professionalism. Your passion towards car tuning is what attracting me to return and striving for performance continously.
Because of that you had my full confidence in tuning my 370z and the car speaks for your work itself!
The sound! The power gain! The torque! It was an unbelievably repeatable 18-25kw gain at the wheels! You have taken my car to a whole new level indeed!
I cant help smiling through each gear and thanking you for you and your team’s amazing work especially Tony.
Please keep up the great work so people who are passionate about cars can be looked after by you.
All the best to the current 86 project! Looking forward to its transformation in your hands!
Titus
What a professional outfit Tunehouse is, we where doing a lot of research to ensure we got the right company to tune our R35 GTR. We were given advise by Nissan themselves and a few forums suggesting Tunehouse would be the most professional and capable of getting the results we wanted.
Right from the word go we asked for some more pick up and go and got exactly that. The power we asked for is what Tony and Jim delivered on. The car is exceptional, not to much power just enough to put it all down to the ground and put a smile on your dial every time you put the foot down, acceleration at all speeds is vastly improved. What was a very quite car before now sounds awesome, not to loud just a great exhaust note, and turbo spool which we love.
I would happily suggest anyone with any car to go here, I will be getting our friends and our GT done here not hesitation. Tony’s knowledge on products, and giving there service for a great price.
Jim is very welcoming, showing us the Dyno room which in all the years I have not seen one as advanced, and one that can ensure consistent results day after day, certainly best dyno room I have seen in Australia.
The boys works speaks for itself, testimonials just reinforce the good work there doing
Thanks and will be back for mmmmmmmmmmorrrreeee power.
You can play music in your car though almost any system, but if you want something that sounds amazing, you are going to want to spend a little cash to get it right. There are many car audio systems from which to choose, and what you need will depend on your budget and you car or truck. You may think it’s cool to have woofers in your trunk, but what if they fill up your entire trunk? For some people, they don’t care about trunk space; they just care about hearing what they want to hear out of car audio systems.,
